Fetoscopy

Fetoscopy is performed on the fetus and placenta while both are still inside your uterus. It provides a view of the baby and placenta. The doctor can see the baby through the fetoscope and can detect some abnormalities and problems. This very specialized test is not performed very often.
A small incision is made in the mother's abdomen, and a scope similar to the one used in laparoscopy is placed through the abdomen into the uterus.
Risk of miscarriage is 3 to 4% with this procedure. The test should be done only by someone experienced in this technique.
