Pregnancy Questions and Answers

Question:
I usually take a lot of vitamins, but my doctor advised me to take only a prenatal vitamin during pregnancy. Why?
Answer:
Too much of a good thing can be harmful. Some vitamins accumulate in body tissues when taken in megadoses and can have an adverse effect on you and your baby. Researchers believe that megadoses of vitamin A can cause birth defects when taken during pregnancy. In addition, vitamins D, E and К in megadoses can be harmful. Follow your doctor's advice, take a prenatal vitamin and eat nutritious, well-balanced meals to get the vitamins and minerals you and your baby need.
