It's a good idea to try to deal with headaches without medication. Several methods you can try are medicine-free.
Use deep-breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to help you relax.
Close your eyes and rest in a quiet place.
Eat regularly. Avoid foods or substances such as caffeine that might cause a headache.
Apply an ice pack to the back of your head.
Get enough sleep.
If your headaches don't go away using these techniques, acetaminophen (Tylenol) is recommended. You can take the regular or extra-strength version. If this doesn't help, contact your healthcare provider.
If you suffer from migraine headaches, try the techniques described above. If they don't help, discuss the problem with your physician. Do not take any medications for a migraine headache without discussing it first with your physician.
