Some women complain of nasal stuffiness or nosebleeds during pregnancy. We believe these occur because of circulation changes caused by the hormonal changes involved in pregnancy. The mucous membranes of the nose and nasal passages swell and bleed more easily.
Do not use decongestants or nasal sprays to relieve stuffiness without first asking your doctor. Many are combinations of several medications that should not be used during pregnancy. Try a humidifier to relieve stuffiness. Increase your fluid intake, and use a gentle lubricant, such as petroleum jelly. If these remedies don't provide relief, discuss the matter with your healthcare provider.
